Across Nebraska, there’s a shortage of over 25,000 affordable rental units, leaving many families without stable housing. Hope Harbor is on a mission to change that through our Lighthouse Apartment project - new housing options for those who need it most.
Affordable housing strengthens local economies. For every $1 spent on housing, up to $3.08 is generated in local economic activity.*

In the process of designing Lighthouse Apartments, more federal grant funding became available, allowing us to expand our project and add additional Supportive Housing units. If we do not get the grant, the board of directors will decide on what to do with the existing Service Center. Regardless, Phase 1 will move forward.

No. The Supportive Housing units (13 units in Phase 1 and 10 additional units in Phase 2) will use Coordinated Entry as the selection process. This means that individuals who qualify (are homeless and have a disability) will complete an assessment that will determine their place on the list. This system is already used across the state for Supportive Housing units and these new units will be included in that process. Many Hope Harbor clients do qualify and depending on their ranking, they may be selected for a Supportive Housing unit.
Additionally, 7 units will be offered at “market rate”. These units will prioritize families with Section 8 vouchers.

Our Phase 1 build is estimated at $10 million. This includes the Supportive Housing units, as well as the move and expansion of the Hope Harbor service center. This allows services to be offered on the ground level and will make room for a drive-up donation space that will be easier for the community to access.
Hope Harbor has a track record of making sound fiscal decisions. Their last capital campaign, launched in 2015, resulted in excess funds that were invested for future expansion. Similarly, as we work on the campaign we expect to make the right financial decision every step of the way for this build.
